"Alone with Myself" Solo Exhibition by Dov Fuchs
Curator: Dina Bova
Dov Fuchs is a multifaceted artist who seamlessly combines photography and digital art to create surreal and conceptual works. Instead of simply documenting reality, Dov uses his camera as a tool for creative process and self-expression. Through fragments of images captured on camera, Dov creates an illusory and fantastic reality on a digital canvas using his computer.
Recently, the artist's work has focused on self-portraits, in which he acts as the protagonist in surreal stories. These works are the result of his reflections alone with himself about life - his memories, dreams, feelings, philosophy and personal views on the world. Dov finds it convenient to use himself as a photo model to express his views. “If you use yourself as a model, you are always available and can afford to look less than complimentary, and most importantly, you do not depend on anyone” he says.
His work forces viewers to question their possibly preconceived notions and look at reality from a different angle. Many of his works deal with his personal as well as universal human anxieties, such as fear of aging, fear of change, fear of being left behind or fear of making the wrong choices in life. Many of these feelings are familiar to all of us, but everyone experiences them differently. In this exhibition, viewers may recognize themselves in the pictures and even learn something new about themselves.
Dov Fuchs was born in Haifa in 1948. He has a diverse academic background, including degrees in aerospace engineering, psychology, and Hebrew literature. An aerospace engineer by profession, he worked for a leading Israeli aerospace/defense company until his early retirement in 2007. He is married, has two sons and five grandchildren.
Dov's true passion has always been related to art. He has published two novels and is a member of the Israeli Association of Painters and Sculptors. Despite being a self-taught photographer with no formal education in photography or digital art, his passion and determination have brought him success and recognition in the fields of photography and digital art. He has presented his works in a solo exhibition and several group exhibitions in Israel and abroad, won several awards in photography competitions, and was featured in various digital art magazines in Israel and abroad.
